People reenact scenes from Star Wars and other famous films as well as things like the Civil War. Why not the September 11th plane hijackings?

I've already done one topic on plane hijackings but I felt that in honor of the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks I should do something a little more special.

It's apparent even ten years later that September 11th was a huge deal. I remember that day very well; my mother woke me up telling me that I needed to see what was happening on TV. The first plane had already crashed and within moments of me descending the stairs the second plane was crashing. We watched as the events unfolded and then I went to work, where I was told not to speak to customers about what had happened. Not surprisingly, every single customer asked about it. I was working tech support at the time and there was lots to say during computer restarts, so most of us talked about it anyway. It was big news! 3000 people got killed, that doesn't happen every day. Oh, wait, it does.

I am not going to throw a lot of statistics because anyone who can read this page obviously has a web browser and can find the stats themselves. It is hard to think that the world has forgotten how many people die every year from things like cancer, AIDS/HIV, drug addiction, alcoholism, smoking, and accidents. We could choose not to consider drugs, alcohol, and smoking because those are choices and people who get murdered usually do not have a choice. Cancer, AIDS, other diseases, accidental death, and homicides are all generally not a choice made by the victim (at least, not knowingly). AIDS has an awareness week - an entire week devoted to AIDS. When is it? I don't know; but I can tell you when September 11th happened. There is a yearly run for breast cancer as well as other cancer-related activities and awareness days throughout the year. When do they happen? Again, I don't know.

The emphasis on September 11th is stupid. Less than 3000 people died - once. This is not something that happens every year. It's not something that happens every ten years. 3000 people died one time and every year people get all puffy about it and write shitty slogans like "never forget" on the whiteboards at work.

My proposal is simple. If people want to make a big deal out of September 11th, then it should actually be a big deal. The best way is to reenact it every year. The US government should sponsor a program in which ~250 volunteers climb aboard two airline jets and crash them into buildings, killing 3000 people per year. We could even do themes! One year could be a fiesta theme, where we have a big party after with piƱatas and build-your-own tacos. Don't skimp on the shredded cheese though, I like to fill my tacos with nothing but ground beef and shredded cheese.

Other possible themes for the September 11th Reenactment Society to consider:

Finally, every year needs some kind of title. Something to set it apart from any other day. September 11th is no different from December 25th, but we all know December 25th as Christmas. It is unfortunate, then, that September 11th has already been established as both the name and date of the holiday, but we can remedy that by borrowing from the WWE. For example, September 11th: No Way Out. Or September 11th: Armageddon. September 11th: Fiesta.
